"At Bio-One our support for Law Enforcement and Fire Service Officers is unwavering, and we're thrilled to partner with the California Police Athletic Federation during this memorable event," said Nick-Anthony Zamucen, founder of Bio-One. "We wish each athlete success and look forward to celebrating these everyday heroes."

A Day To Remember

Author: Matt Lovasz

Today marks the anniversary of two Kirkwood Officers, PD Ballman and Sgt. Biggs, were shot and killed in 2008.

I was in Special Operations, out of my venue on an arrest attempt. I was passing Kirkwood Rd on my way back to my department when the call came out that an active shooter had shot an officer outside the Kirkwood City Hall. I remember that was the first time I heard panic from a dispatcher because she had a direct view of the shooting from her window inside Kirkwood PD. This is the only photo I have of me on scene, taken by a news crew.

a day to remember

The following days I spent parked outside of PD Ballman’s house. We were doing so because he left being a wife, a 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter. We were protecting the home and letting the family know they were safe.

I remember after the funeral Officers and Firefighters would come by the house to bring food, mow the lawn, clean the gutters, or do whatever the family needed.

I thought, this is why I do what I do. I got into law enforcement the same reason I got into Bio-One. I do it because I want to be there to help.

That’s why we keep our motto in the front of our minds when we receive a call that something tragic has happened,
“Help First, Business Second”.
